If you’re interested in our programs, we’ll first take you on a comprehensive tour of the facility where we can answer any questions you have. Then, you’ll sit down with our educational director or toddler program manager to discuss your child’s likes and dislikes, their normal routine, eating habits, and what will comfort him or her. We’ll send you home with paperwork that will need to be returned.
How do you handle transitioning children into the program?
From experience, we’ve learned that children adapt better to new environments if they are introduced slowly. To that end, when your child is ready to start we’ll ask that you stay with him or her in the classroom while he or she gets to know new classmates and teachers. Every child is different, some children are ready to play and interact right away, and others are slower to warm up. We generally tell parents to plan on staying in the classroom from anywhere from 30 minutes to 2-3 hours for the first week or two of enrollment at KC’s.
What is the teacher to student ratio in the toddler program?
4:1, and at various times throughout the day the children are separated into even smaller groups for more individualized attention.
Are children allowed to use bottles in the toddler program?
Because of state regulations and safety concerns, bottles are not allowed in the toddler room after 30 days. Children use sippy cups and have frequent milk and water breaks throughout the day.
My child has trouble napping, how would you handle this?
We hear this a lot. Many parents are concerned that their child won’t nap at KC’s, but we rarely have a problem with children sleeping. The toddlers are stimulated with activities, and spend time outdoors, and then we have quiet time before their nap—allowing them to settle down. Then, we sing songs, softly read books and do whatever else is needed specifically for your child in order to help him or her sleep.
Do you potty train in the toddler room?
Yes! KC’s Academy’s policy on potty training is to encourage each child to use the potty if they show interest. We work directly with parents to maintain consistency with your potty training at home, and give you updates if your child is showing interest in potty training while in our care.
